This new technology, Aloapur®, for animal health is based on our core competence in lactic acid derivatives and emulsifiers. Biobased animal feed solution for animal health
The Fiberlive™ technology from Corbion will be a game changer in the orthopedic resorbable market where load-bearing properties are needed, such as in trauma and spine applications. It is the strongest fully resorbable material available for human implants.
With strength up to six times higher than cortical bone, it is comparable to metal.
But it is also a patient-friendly medical product, eliminating the need for follow-up surgery to remove the implant at a later stage. And as such it also brings cost reductions in terms of health-care costs.

Market demand in the coating industry is characterized by the need for coatings with higher solid content, lower volatile organic compounds (VOC), and improved ease of use. To provide customers with solutions that fulfill these requirements we have developed special-grade lactides for enhanced coating resins.

It delivers the industry-leading enzyme innovations that protect bakery products throughout their freshness cycle, from distribution onto the retail shelf and into the hands of consumers. Ultra Fresh has proven success in providing new options for cutting bread waste and overcoming consumer disappointment.
Sustained freshness in bakery products
Sustainability and a reduced carbon footprint are the main drivers of the biobased plastics industry. PLA (poly lactic acid bioplastics) has a significantly lower carbon footprint than traditional fossil-oil-based plastics and is renewable as it is made from natural feedstocks.
The first generation of bioplastics had a major drawback: it could not withstand high temperatures and could only be used in a limited number of applications. However, with its innovative solutions for improved heat-resistant PLA bioplastics, Corbion unlocked the potential for biobased durable plastics in, for example, automotive, clothing, and consumer electronics applications.

Key innovation programs
A recent example is the new lactic acid production process where we have significantly decreased the amount of auxiliary products needed, resulting in a more sustainable process. At the moment we are also working on developing lactic acid processes in which we replace traditional agricultural raw materials such as sugars and starches with biomass. This so-called second-generation feedstock avoids interference with the food value chain.

With BASF we researched biobased succinic acid. Our complementary strengths in fermentation and downstream processing led to the development of a sustainable and highly efficient manufacturing process. This makes biobased succinic acid an economically and ecologically attractive alternative to petrochemical raw materials. It can, for example, be used in multiple applications in the packaging, automotive, fiber, furniture, and construction markets.
Our scientists are working on the use of micro-organisms and enzymes for the production of biobased materials, including a variety of biochemical building blocks, replacing materials based on fossil carbohydrates.
